Group Homes
Provide affordable independent homes for adults who have a disability, who would otherwise find it impossible to pay the existing market rent. This is done through rent supplements jointly provided by the C.M.H.C. on behalf of the Federal government; and the Ministry of Lands, Parks & Housing on behalf of the Provincial government. Residents pay as rent 30% of their monthly income. All residential group homes are experienced by people with a physical disability.
In Vancouver, residents run their home on a cooperative basis with the Vancouver Resource Society. The VRS is ready to assist with any problems the residents may have difficulty in solving. Residents share all expenses for operation of the house, such as utilities, and groceries, and have a right to decide who they want as housemate(s). Some group homes also provide 24-hour attendant care, and residents may choose their own attendants from potential candidates screened by the V.R.S. Contact Vancouver Resource Society for more information and/or referrals.
Group homes are also available in communities throughout BC Contact
