If you are receiving Disability Benefits, you are eligible to receive:
a) braces, prosthesis, splints, orthopaedic shoes, including the cost of alterations, adjustments, and repairs.
b) hearing aids, including batteries and repairs, at the discretion of the MSP director.
c) dental care, including dentures, their repairs and relining.
d) eye examinations, standard single or bi-focal lenses & standard frames, providing the costs of the frames are within the limits set by the director.
e) wheelchairs, walkers, crutches.
Your Financial Aid Worker is responsible for providing you with these
services. If you have a problem obtaining such services, call the Ministry
of Health Resource Line 1800-465-4911.
Provides information, referrals, technical-aid consultation, and several types of hands-free telephone devices for people with special needs. A minimal fee is charged for this equipment if a medical certificate is supplied to verify special need. Some available special needs telephone devices include speaker-phones, dialers, answer & record units, and cordless telephones.
If you require directory assistance because of your disability, BC Tel may exempt you from the usual charges for this service. If you are unable to dial the telephone, the BC Tel operator will place your call for you.
By providing BC Tel with a certified documentation of your disability from a recognized organization, physician, or individual acceptable to BC Tel, you are eligible for these exemptions.
Customer service is available to provide assistance to TTY users regarding telephone bill and service and repair problems. Persons who require a TTY may register with BC Tel for a 50% discount on certain long distance calls placed from their residence telephone number.

or for more information. Office hours from 9:00 to 5:00, Monday to Friday.
Allows customers using a TTY or teletypewriter (also known as TDD or
Telecommunications Device for the Deaf) to communicate with any other telephone
user. Also allows a hearing person without a TTY to call a TTY user. Message
Relay personnel can call Directory Assistance for TTY users. Specially
trained personnel are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No charge
for local calls, and long distance calls (for TTY customer only) billed
at a 50% discount of the rate listed in the telephone directory. Confidentiality
is assured.
The Technical Aids program provides assistance to those who are severely
disabled and unable to control their environment or communicate in the
traditional manner. It will not overlap services available through other
programs. *
National, nonprofit organization that identifies and responds to the needs of adults with severe physical disabilities. Specializes in the development of products and programs that assist these individuals to be more independent. Main services include Creative Employment Options, an employment training project that assists adults with severe physical disabilities obtain meaningful employment in an area of their choice; Computer Comfort in which volunteer instructors provide computer instruction to people with disabilities; and Consultation and Assessment Services, which includes computer and disabilities; and Consultation and Assessment Services, which includes computer and equipment evaluation, workstation design, architectural accessibility, ergonomic evaluations of the workplace, job demand analysis, and personalized computer training. The Research and Development office works on adaptive projects. Fees charged for some services. *
Conducts research and development on technical aids for assisting persons with physical disabilities, and provides direct services to facilitate their integration into society. Recruits skilled Vancouver engineers and technicians to create the assistive devices. Nonprofit society. *
